Liantan Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The name of the Liantan Graptolite Shale was proposed by Zhang Shiti in 1933. The type section is at the roadside west of the Liantan bus station in Yunan County, Guangdong Province. The reference section is at Dajianshan, west of Liantan in Yunan County.

Lithology and Thickness
The formation, 213 m in thickness, is mainly represented by a suite of turbidity sediments. It is consisting of dark gray and black shale and brown gray banded shale, with interbeds of thin-bedded sandstone and pink, brown yellow sandstone at the lower part.

Regional extent
The exposures are mainly observed in west Guangdong Province. The formation is up to 1866 m in thickness at Lubu in Gaoyao County with interbeds of gravel-bearing quartzose micritic sandstone and gravel-bearing siltstone in the middle part. At Luojing of Luoding County and Yingzai of Lianjiang City, there is a suite of phyllite and schist not well studied yet for stratigraphic designation.

The formation bears several graptolite zones in ascending order as follows: the unnamed zone Glyptograptus aff. persculptus zone; the unnamed zone Pristiograptus aff. atavus zone;the Demirastrites triangulates zone; the Demirastrites convolutes zone; the Monograptus sedgwickii zone.
